Reading, Watching, Playing

As noted before I wanted to catch up on a couple of series with new stuff out. So, I read through all of Aaronovitch's Rivers of London novels, novellas and graphic novels. I skipped the short stories (I'd like to read them in order but I'll need to edit the epubs of the collections I've got so I can separate out each story - they're not in chronological order in the collection and it doesn't have a chapter listing so it would have been too much hassle to find the right story at each point). This is still an ongoing series with more to come in both novels and graphic novels (and maybe more novellas).
Having gone through Rivers of London (seven novels, two long novellas which effectively make up another novel's worth, and ten graphic novels) I decided I would do a re-read of the Alex Verus series by Benedict Jacka since the new one is the final book. I enjoyed this series again and it came to a good ending. He's starting a new series in a new setting, but still an urban fantasy mostly based in London. First one out this October if it goes to plan. I'll give it a go at some point.
I'm now part way through Mary Robinette Kowal's SF mystery riffing off The Thin Man, The Spare Man. I enjoyed the movies way back when and this is an OK SF variant, though I think the Midsolar Murders book I read recently is a better SF/Detective mashup.
Watching
Finished Lockwood and Co with $DAUGHTER. Really enjoyed it and disappointed that all sign are it won't get renewed. Started a re-watch of "The Librarians" with $DAUGHTER after that. On the third (of four) season at present. I'm gradually re-watching Sanctuary myself in between new stuff. Finished Season 2 of The Legend of Vox Machina. Great stuff for D&D geeks. Stalled on DOTA: Dragon Age in season 2 (season 3 is also out). It made the mistake that Arcane didn't make of just keeping throwing in more and more new characters from the battle game (League of Legends-based Arcane did really well at telling a coherent story from the mostly untold in-game (but developed for the producers) backstories of the fighters in their game, but it was a really strong story despite being an origin story for about eight major fighters).
New season of Star Trek Picard has been fun, but would probably not be of interest to anyone who hasn't seen STNG. Slowly watching the Willow TV show. Not convinced by it but going back to it occasionally. Watching Season 2 of Carnival Row with $WIFE. It's a real pity that's going to be the last of that one. I hope they knew far enough out to give it a decent finish (season 1 completed the mystery plotline but left a huge political situation cliffhanger). Watched a couple of episodes of "The Ark" (created by Dean Devlin of the Librarian(s)). Not sure about that. I might keep going for a bit but it's a bit depressing. The Mandalorian Season 3 just started so we'll be watching that at some point soon.
Watched Black Panther Wakanda Forever with the family and enjoyed it.
Playing
Still going with Ringfit Adventure most days. Going through Nightmare Mode on Alan Wake trying to find the Nightmare-mode only collectibles. Played through Unravel 2 with $DAUGHTER, another local co-op game. 2.1D platformer. Gentle fun. Also new levels of Human Fall Flat, which again has a nice local co-op mode. Still one more of four recent releases to go. Tried a free game (due to the sequel being out, I think) but it was first person viewpoint which I can never get to grips with. Started feeling off and gave up and deleted it. Might look for something new for myself soon.
