I just heard today from the lecturer in the Law School responsible for the LLM programme that my dissertation has received "a good mark" (he'll be sending me more detailed feedback and marks when he's back at the University in a week or so) which is beyond the straight pass (50%) that I needed. It is therefore only a matter of admin before I'm officially awarded my Masters degree in Law.

One of my colleagues has been telling me that I should definitely go to the December graduation ceremony and that she'll persuade as many as possible of the other School staff to "process" in that ceremony as well :-).

Dissertation Subject

The title is "The Road to the EUCD", and it's about the political and lobbying influences that led to the final form of the copyright directive, particularly looking at issues like the "technological circumvention measures". I'm hoping to fix it up into a journal paper - possibly for the European Intellectual Property Review or somewhere like that.

I'm definitely interested in the legal issues around games. Digital Entertainment is one of the chapters in the book, and that includes mention of things like the status of digital artefacts (can you sell Ultima articles for real money, who "owns" a character in Lineage) and the "real life" issues associated with games such as the GTA lawsuits.

Very well done. But sounds a bit suspicious, I am sure that was the degree they offered to Jim Hacker as a bribe...

Yes, but at least it stops me being a motown band. After the work and stress this has involved, though, I'm not sure I want to continue gaining qualifications so that I can become Kevin Bacon.
