holidays and lack thereof

OK, I don't take all my holiday entitlement. I work too hard and too many hours. That's a given for most academics. What I usually (though not always) do, is take University closure days off. My University is 80 years old this year (well, it's older than that as an institution but it received its royal charter in 1926. So, we're having various celebrations this year, including an extra University closure day, to be held on August 25th. That's when I'll be taking annual leave anyway to be at Worldcon. Grumble.

Tell me how the Worldcon is like. I had been planning to go but things happened and I think I won't go across the Atlantic. Keep getting told that Cons are really very different when they are held in the US.
