This week's THES (http://www.thes.co.uk/) had a cartoon this week showing what can happen when you return from a sabbatical - you get huge amounts of work thrown at you to "punish" you for taking a eyar away. I do hope that's not going to happen to me one year from now.

I'm reminded of a cartoon from ChemTech (monthly magazine of the Chemical Engineering section of the ACS) from about twenty-odd years ago.

Two guys in pristine labcoats are walking through a park, where they come across someone sleeping rough under a pile of spectrometer traces: "Poor Smithers, took a year's sabbatical and never caught up with the literature...."

(Oh, and your URL has a Freudian/spellchecker slip in it: shouldn't it be http://www.thes.co.uk/ ?)

Thanks - the link is fixed now. When they started their online version, they used to be THESIS (THES Internet Service) but they dropped that and went to THES.co.uk instead. My mind sometimes types the old version by mistake, because it was such a good URL for this publication.

Luckily since I'm taking a research sabbatical, not only will I not lose the thread of my research, I'm expecting to get a serious boost from it instead.
