Moving Meetings
Apr. 1st, 2005 02:36 pmA bit of a relief this morning. The Madrid group I'm working on an EU project with decided that we needed to have the next meeting in Madrid but that it could be moved to a week on Monday instead of next Friday. Next Tuesday to Thursday I'm in Belfast for a conference and to get to Madrid for a meeting on Friday would have meant an 07:25 flight from Heathrow that still didn't mean I'd make the meeting until midday (losing the hour is a pain).
I'm expecting to see Lilian Edwards and Martina Gillen in Belfast, since they're both on the programme. Lilian was the one who encouraged me to attend the BILETA conference but then she hasn't made it for the last two years when I have :-(. She got a bit of a surprise recently when one of her colleagues recommended my work from last year's conference to her (the recommender didn't know that Lilian knew me). There seem to be so many fans in academica that I know these days that I've even thought of setting up a mailing for for them :-). Networking is a core career advancement tool in academia, and it's always useful to know people even if they are in other subject areas.
Anyway, enough wittering on. Got to get back to writing my final bits of "Social Issues of the Internet Age", and hoping that my co-author completes her chapters in time to not miss another deadline.
