My main blog is currently experiencing technical difficulties, so I'm posting this here.

From 1st April 2010 I will be a Professor in the Graduate School of Business Administration at Meiji University in Tokyo.I hope to move to Tokyo in early March.

Congratulations!

And now it looks as if SPICA is going to get ESA backing, I might be visiting Tokyo again - hopefully this time without becoming temporarily disabled!

Thanks. Do let me know if/when you'll be in tokyo again (by email, as it was just lucky last time that I read my LJ Friends' list at the right time to spot you were in Tokyo - I'm not religious about reading LJ, though I've been getting better lately). I suspect it's too quick for this year, but if you could swing it to be around and fre 10-11 April, we're running a bi-lingual SF con (Hal-con: http://www.hal-con.net/) in Tokyo (well, in Omiya in Saitama just North of Tokyo, but easily reachable by train from Tokyo). Yeah, OK, that's one week after Easter. We're hoping this will be a yearly con, though, so keep an eye on the website for dates in future (in the spring, hopefully a little further from Easter).

Won't be this year as I'll be at another (professional) meeting, but I'll definitely note it for the future!

Thanks. This meets two of my life goals - one long-held one and one more recent: becoming a professor and getting a job in Japan. In fact, 2009 was a pretty good year (I count the job as dating to 2009, since that's when it was first offered to me on a "bureaucratic approval pending" basis): got married, got a major paper published, got a job in Tokyo... I'm pretty happy with the way my life's going now.

Knew about the relationship...didn't know it went into marriage! So double happiness to you there as well!!! Look forward to properly greeting both of you sometime soon...

どう いたしまして。 I'm still sorting out exactly when I'll move to Japan, so I can't book my flight yet :-). The Hal-Con website is finally getting more English content (some pages already updated and the rest currently on the test site for checking). Please have a look and let me klnow any suggestions for information you think is needed or any errors you spot.

Thanks. Yes, I decided in mid-2007 that I wanted to move there permanently so it's taken two and a half years to arrange. But, it's as a full professor, so it's a really good move all around.

Thanks. I hope to see you in Japan again sometime. I'm not sure about Aussiecon yet, though I hope to make it. It will be interesting if I can. It's still a pretty long flight, but the time difference is essentially nothing (one or two hours) so I'll get to see what the difference between travel lag and jet lag is :-).
