Prompted by an exchange with [personal profile] vivdunstan I'm gong to try to just post here about what I'm reading or watching a bit, but try and keep my perfectionism under control and not try to list everything I read/watch or to review it (though I may post some thoughts if I'm feeling inspired).

Currently reading. The Invisible Library Series by Genevieve Cogman. I've read up to book 7 before but as book 8 recently came out and particularly since it seems to complete the series, I'm re-reading the series. Currently on Book 7 (The Dark Archive).

Read recently. The Terra Ignota Series by Ada Palmer. Interesting stuff but while I liked it I rather felt a bit like I did with MacLeod's Intrusion, that there was a timeless SF novel in there that was muddied by one or more other themes. In MacLeod's case I think it was the parallel worlds stuff. In Palmer's it was the magical and theological stuff. It didn't make them bad books, I just think they could have been better without the additions.

Currently watching. Catching up on Star Trek: Discovery. I had been watching it with $WIFE but we stalled on it in the middle of season 2 and I'm catching up with it on my own now. Up to early season 3 and really enjoying it.

Recently watched. Archive 81. I don't often do horror (just sometimes: I watched The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina all the way through but bailed after one episode of American Horror Story). This is very good Lovecraftian stuff, with not much of the over-the-top elements that often puts me off in a lot of horror.

Having said I don't do much horror, I also read Richard Kadrey's Sandman Slim series last year. 11 books (I think) last year and just in time for him to release the final book a few months after I'd finished reading them. I think I'll catch up on the last book soon but won't re-read the whole series.

I'm very fond of the Incvisible Library series, but was put out to discover book eight was the end of the series, especially since I deliberately picked it as a pick-me-up after finding out that the latest in the Alex Verus series by Banedict Jacka was the final book of the series.

Ooh you’ve reminded me about the Invisible Library series. Thanks. I read the first one in June 2020 it seems, and enjoyed it, rating it 4/5 on Goodreads. But I didn’t run on to the next, though I’d picked that up in a bargain eBook offer. I suspect it’s a series I’d enjoy more if I binged, but I also see the next one is set in a version of Venice. So I should rather bump it up the reading list! Thanks for the reminders. I will also add the others to my ebook bargain price checking wishlist.

Archive 81 is definitely something I want to watch if I am well enough. I can’t watch much telly at all now - just too sedated. I’ve also suggested it to Martin, who gets through more telly than me. I’m 100% sure it will appeal to me, but also confident that he will enjoy it too.
