I went to the Triphony hall in Kinshicho today for a concert by four of the local Sumida-Ku primary schools' sixth years. Each school did an approx 10-15 min piece. They were good quality. One thing I noticed was that three of the four (the exception was a marching band, who didn't march much as this was a stage) had anything from five to twelve piano-key accordions which look very much like vivdunstan's icon photo one (the biggest group had some green as well as red). $DAUGHTER's school, including $DAUGHTER, took part. She was part of a choral performance and then played the bass organ in an orchestral piece. $MOTHER-IN-LAW, $FATHER-IN-LAW and $WIFE also attended.

Excellent! I still have my tiny 12 bass piano accordion that I first learned on, starting when I was 4 or 5. It is red too. Made in Germany. The bigger red piano accordion in one of my icons is a 72 bass piano accordion made in Italy.

These were probably something like the 12-bass learner version. We were too far back in the auditorium (the kids all had the stall seats, the parents/family were all in the rear of the floor seating) for me to see the left hand side properly.

12 bass is really limited. It was probably more like 24 bass or perhaps 48 bass which are both used routinely for young learners. I went 12 then 48 then 72, and refused to go higher than that!

I bow to your expertise. As I wrote, I was too far away to see well, but it didn't look like a huge range of buttons on the left. Their hands were not moving up and down on that side.
